My background supporting Unions.
As a labor leader I have spent a substantial amount of time working with labor members advocating for the rights for those who need it the most. This includes advocating as a labor leader for SEIU 1021. I got my start working on issues for supporting non-profits, this includes supporting immigrants back in 2018 addressing an issue called public charge which kept 26 million Americans from accessing healthcare, food, and housing assistance. I didn't stop there. I continued to be curious about what SEIU 1021 was all about so when it was time for convention I was able to meet other members and decided to join COPE, AFRAM (African American Solidarity Committee), LGBTQ Lavendar Committee, and later the intermittently the Women's Committee. It was then I was able to become the Second Secretary of COPE. This was one of my biggest accomplishments that I made, because I learned a lot during this time. I would later join SEJ (Social Economic Justice Committee). I would extend my leadership as the Co-Chair of Workers with Disabilities Committee. Through these committees, I am able to advocate for specific issues, social justice issues, that matter to members of labor & so much more.

What Unions means to me:
I know what it was like without a union. I remember the employers where I made $7.25 an hour trying to survive, while I was attending school. The Employer will tell you things like "don't talk about your pay with your co-workers" ect. There wasn't any access to healthcare, retirement options, and definitely not Vacation Pay, for employees.

Finally, when I worked for a new role after graduating school I discovered SEIU 1021 after a girl named Abby moved to Arizona mentioned it to me. So I went over there to find out what it was. Goodness was I in for the ride of my life!! They help you with Workplace Issues, and getting a fair shake at Fair Wages, Retirement, There's a huge part of the Union that's into Politics which is pretty neat. As a labor leader I participated in many programs, actions, rallies, and committees.

Unions are important to ensure you are safe at the worksite, clean working environment, fair wages, and trust me you definitely deserve a decent living especially in San Francisco, CA. The best part is getting a Union family that fights for you, and has your back. So while in leadership. I hope to accomplish so much more for all our Unions.
